The historic homes in Highland Park boast stunning facades, intricate detailing and sprawling manicured gardens. The neighborhood’s, tree-lined streets feature a variety of architectural styles, including Colonial Revival, Tutor, Mediterranean, and Georgian. At Signature Illumination Designs, we believe our lighting installations enhance each and every residence, no matter the style. Join us for a sneak peek behind the walls of this historic Highland Park residence for a glimpse into their one-of-a-kind sculpture garden.
We designed solutions to highlight the remarkable works of Kim Dickey and Dale Chihuly. Kim Dickey’s art explores the intersection of nature, architecture, and ornamentation. This commissioned sculpture, clad with thousands of ceramic quatrefoils, blends two tapestries into a single piece honoring the collector’s love of nature and their beloved pets. Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor widely recognized for his pioneering work in the field of blown glass. This expansive installation is a timeless part of the client’s art collection and made the journey to Highland Park from San Antonio. The homeowners and their landscape designer relied on our Signature style to elevate the backyard into an art gallery by designing the perfect lighting plan for these two installations.
To achieve proper illumination and subtlety, while drawing attention to the art, we chose to use Dauer’s Bodacious fixtures and bullet lights from Alliance - both of which are ideal for highlighting design elements.
The Bodacious fixtures shine on Dickey’s piece, creating both points of light and shadow. To achieve this look, we used a wide beam spread and a dimmer, which allows us to optimize the art’s incredible nuances. For the Chihuly installation, which included nearly 30 individual glass reeds and three large blown-glass globes, we used Alliance bullet lights. These fixtures allowed us to be intentional with shining the light, focusing solely on the art, not the foliage surrounding the installation. The final product is something the entire team is proud of, and we loved the chance to showcase our abilities in the art of specialty lighting.
