Lighting is a complex medium to harness; however, when executed correctly it becomes an intrinsic part of architectural design. As professional lighting designers, we see lighting as a creative extension of architecture and utilize our extensive experience and knowledge of lighting to strengthen the design and establish personality.
When elegantly integrated into a structure’s design, lighting enhances the space while establishing mood. For this beautiful home, designed and built by custom home builders Faulkner Perrin, we developed an innovative lighting solution to accentuate the home’s unique characteristics while establishing a cohesive personality throughout the property.
The lighting at the entrance of a home defines the property. It is the first thing guests see upon arrival and often times it offers guests the first glimpse into the home. To ensure this home’s curb appeal leaves a lasting impression, we strategically installed warm torch uplights at the base of the two entrance columns, creating a well-lit and welcoming environment. Adding a layer of safety, we installed LED lighting on the edge of the path to illuminate the entryway of the home and ensure guests are gently guided from the dark outdoors into a welcoming environment.
A properly illuminated entrance not only establishes mood and personality, but it also works to showcase prominent architectural features that are unique to the home. For this home, we mounted Alliance low voltage uplights at the base of the home. This casts a beam of light onto the home, illuminating the home’s beautiful architecture while creating a dramatic effect. Additionally, we installed uplights to softly highlight the ornamental trees lining the property and add a layer of texture to the landscape.
For the back of the home, we wanted to reflect a soft, romantic back patio ambiance. Our team installed FX recessed uplights at the base of the columns lining the back patio to showcase the home’s unique features. At night, the column lights create a moonlight effect of shadows naturally guiding the eye across the landscape.
Outdoor spaces are an important extension of the home, serving as a place to gather and entertain. For this home, we carefully developed a custom lighting solution suited for the environment to set an ambient tone without creating an overpowering glare. At night, the back patio has a completely new personality creating a soft, romantic environment when grazed with light.
